Spurs star Harry Kane named alongside Liverpool trio in FIFA The Best nominations

FIFA have revealed their 10-man shortlist for The Best player of the year award.

The award is based on what players achieved between July 16, 2018 and July 19, 2019.

And with Tottenham reaching the Champions League final last season, striker Harry Kane has been named on the shortlist.

Spurs were beaten in the final by Premier League rivals Liverpool, for home Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have also been nominated.

Matthijs de Ligt, now at Juventus, and Frenkie de Jong, now at Barcelona, have also made the shortlist, having shone for Ajax in their incredible run to the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

Eden Hazard makes the cut after his season with Chelsea, helping them to the Europa League triumph, while usual suspects Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe are the other names in the 10-man list.

The three finalists will be revealed in the coming weeks, with award winners named at The Best FIFA Football Awards show in Milan on September 23.

There is further Spurs involvement in the nomination for another award - Coach of the Year.

Mauricio Pochettino is named on the three-man shortlist for this, alongside Premier League winning manager Pep Guardiola and Champions League winning boss Jurgen Klopp.

Goalkeeper of the Year is a battle between Manchester City man Ederson, Liverpool's Alisson and Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
