Spurs have revealed that club captain Hugo Lloris has now undergone surgery on his injured left elbow.
The 32-year-old picked up the injury in the 3-0 defeat to Brighton at the start of November, and was expected to return to training at the start of 2020 without any need for surgery.
However, the club revealed in a statement that the French international has now undergone a procedure to help repair his elbow.
The ligament damage following Lloris' dislocated elbow has been deemed severe enough to require a surgical procedure, as "the elbow remained unstable", though the club insists he is still on track to return in early 2020.
The club statement reads: "Following further clinical testing and examination, Hugo Lloris has now undergone surgery on his left elbow.
"The France goalkeeper dislocated his elbow and sustained ligament damage during our Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion last month.
"Surgery was advised after further reviews by specialists found the elbow remained unstable.
"Our club captain remains on course to return to training in the early part of next year."
Since Lloris' injury, Spurs have resigned Michel Vorm to help cover for Paulo Gazzaniga, who has become the No.1 choice in Lloris' absence.
Vorm left the club at the end of the 2018/19 season following the expiration of his contract, but has rejoined until the end of the season.
