Spurs put back on alert after Franck Kessie turns down new contract at AC Milan

Spurs have been put back on alert by Franck Kessie's recent decision to turn down a new contract at AC Milan.

The north London club have been strongly linked with a move for the Ivorian in the past, though in July any move seemed unlikely as the midfielder said he wanted to stay at Milan "for life".

His position seems to have changed since then, as La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Saturday that Kessie had turned down a deal rumoured to be worth €6.5million (£5.6million) per year with the Rossoneri.

With only a year left in his contract, Kessie would be available in January for a fee, or he could sign a pre-contract with another club before moving for free at the end of the season.

AC Milan will likely do whatever it costs to avoid the latter scenario from happening, keen not to repeat the situation they were left in this year when Gianlugui Donnarumma moved to PSG for nothing.

Spurs could face stiff competition if they want to bring Kessie to the club, however, with Arsenal, Liverpool and most recently Chelsea all linked with a move for the 24-year-old.

The Blues recently bolstered their midfield with the signing of Saul Niguez on an initial loan with the option to buy from Atletico Madrid, adding to a stacked squad that also features Wold Cup winner N'Golo Kante and Balon d'Or favourite Jorginho.

Despite this, Calcio Mercato are reporting that Chelsea are in the "front row" to sign Kessie, who scored 14 goals in 50 appearances for AC Milan last season.
