Spurs power rankings: Tanguy Ndombele's spot in the pecking order as Christian Eriksen tumbles

Mauricio Pochettino has plenty of choice in midfield when it comes to naming his Tottenham team on a matchday.

With Spurs getting so much joy out of a 4-2-3-1 formation in the past, for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign so far we've seen a midfield diamond.

That has seen Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele all start, with then one of Erik Lamela or Christian Eriksen at the tip to offer support in attack.

As we are now two months into the new season we have decided to take a look at how the midfielders have fared so far this term.

The power rankings as they stand are below in ascending order.

Wenger: Pochettino needs to show he can give more to Tottenham

Spurs power rankings: Midfielders

Victor Wanyama

Age: 28

Remains at the club after his move to Club Brugge didn't go through before the summer transfer deadline.

Had a game to forget on his first appearance of the season in the defeat at Leicester, with his other two games not much better.

Power ranking: 10th - Chances in the team are going to be hard to come by given he's well down the pecking order.

Oliver Skipp

Age: 19

Another player who is going to struggle for first-team football this season.

Spurs' Carabao Cup exit at Colchester United means he won't get opportunities in the competition, which means he may have to contend with substitute appearances for now.

Power ranking: 9th - Going to have to take his chance when it comes because they will be few and far between.

Eric Dier

Age: 25

The versatile player has had a year to forget with injury and illness limiting his time on the pitch.

Made his first league start against Brighton & Hove Albion last time out but he didn't justify his selection as Spurs slumped to a 3-0 defeat.

Power ranking: 8th - Behind a number of players in the fight to play in both midfield and defence.

Giovani Lo Celso

Age: 23

The summer signing should be back in action very soon after sustaining a hip injury on international duty in September.

Only made three substitute appearances and needs more time on the pitch to show why he was brought to the club.

Power ranking: 7th - Not the start he would have wanted to his career but gametime will come very soon.

Dele Alli

Age: 23

Returned to action in September after picking up a hamstring injury prior to the pre-season game against Inter Milan.

Done nothing of note so far and really needs to up his game to get back in the Spurs and England team.

Power ranking: 6th - Far from his previous levels at present and needs to do more if he wants to play.

Christian Eriksen

Age: 27

Very good on the opening day against Aston Villa but his performances have dropped to worrying levels in recent weeks.

A passenger in the past few games and some fans have called for him to be dropped so Spurs can start planning for life without him.

Power ranking: 5th - Will find himself on the bench a lot more if his recent displays continue.

Erik Lamela

Age: 27

The Argentine has been one of Spurs' better players so far this season with some good performances.

A key player for Pochettino and getting a good run in the team after overcoming his previous injury issues.

Power ranking: 4th - Will be an important player over the course of the season if he keeps on impressing.

Tanguy Ndombele

Age: 22

A mixed start to his Tottenham career with some good showings and some poor ones.

Not up to speed with life in the Premier League and his fitness appears to be a big issue as things stand, but he did show glimpses of his quality in the first half against Bayern Munich.

Power ranking: 3rd - His performances will become more consistent once he fully adapts to life in England and gets used to Pochettino's demands on the training field and on a matchday.

Moussa Sissoko

Age: 30

Committed his long-term future to the club after penning a new contract following his impressive displays last season.

Kept his place in the team despite the arrival of Ndombele and will continue to be a key player for the Lilywhites.

Power ranking: 2nd - Once again going to be a very important player for Spurs with his non-stop displays.

Harry Winks

Age: 23

The shining light in midfield so far with some good performances in the middle of the park.

Was far from his best as Bayern Munich hit seven past the team in their last Champions League game, but has been very good apart from that.

Power ranking: 1st - Now the first midfielder on the teamsheet.
