Spurs power rankings: Hugo Lloris injury hands Paulo Gazzaniga the chance he's always wanted

It will be all change in goal for Tottenham over the coming weeks following the news that Hugo Lloris will be out for the remainder of 2019.

The World Cup winner dislocated his elbow in the 3-0 defeat at Brighton on Saturday after falling awkwardly in his own goal while trying to deal with a Pascal Gross cross.

The good news is that the 32-year-old doesn't need surgery to fix the issue, but the injury means that he is not expected to return to training before the turn of the year.

That will see Paulo Gazzaniga get his chance in goal and he will looking to grasp it with both hands as he bids to become the club's No.1.

As we are now two months into the new season we have decided to take a look at how the shot-stoppers have fared so far this term.

The power rankings as they stand for the goalkeepers are below, in ascending order.

Wenger: Pochettino needs to show he can give more to Tottenham

Spurs power rankings: Goalkeepers

Brandon Austin

Age: 20

Lloris' injury will see Austin make the step up to third choice over the coming months.

The 20-year-old is currently with the England U21 squad for their upcoming internationals against Slovenia and Austria.

Power ranking: 4th - His chance in the squad will only come if there's a goalkeeping crisis.

Alfie Whiteman

Age: 21

Whiteman will feature on the bench for Spurs as deputy to Gazzaniga following Lloris' injury.

Named in the 18-man squad for the 2-1 defeat at Leicester City last month as the Frenchman missed the game with his partner giving birth, he unfortunately missed the cut three days later against Colchester United in the Carabao Cup.

His chance in the first team will come if anything happens to Gazzaniga in the final few months of 2019, but Spurs' cup exit means he won't get the opportunity to play in the games his Argentine teammate would usually do if Lloris was fit.

Power ranking: 3rd - An injury to Gazzaniga and he could get his wish of starting for the first team.

Paulo Gazzaniga

Age: 27

Gazzaniga impressed fans last year with a number of good performances in both the league and cup in Lloris' absence.

However, Pochettino is fiercely loyal to his players and that meant the World Cup winner went straight back into the team.

The ex-Southampton man has made three appearances so far this term and now he has the chance to show he has what it takes to become the club's long-term goalkeeper.

Power ranking: 2nd - Has the chance to stake a claim for the No.1 spot following Lloris' injury.

Hugo Lloris

Age: 32

It appears that it will be next year when Lloris will return to the team after the club issued an injury update on Monday.

Dropping major clangers against Southampton and Brighton already this season after some high-profile mistakes the previous campaign, he has also produced a couple of impressive performances against Arsenal and ironically Saints.

Lloris still remains the club's No.1 and it will take something special from Gazzaniga to oust him from his spot.

Power ranking: 1st - Remains Pochettino's first choice and will be back in the team after returning from injury.
