Son Heung-min shines, Serge Aurier impresses on return - Spurs player ratings vs Crystal Palace

Tottenham returned to Premier League action with a bang after securing a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

After a mixed start to the campaign, it was crucial that Mauricio Pochettino's side got back to winning ways, something that they did in style against the Eagles.

Son Heung-min opened the scoring for Spurs, before an own goal by Patrick Van Aanholt promptly doubled that lead.

It was Son who looked to put the result to bed as he grabbed another midway through the first half, before Erik Lamela wrapped up the points before the break.

Tottenham put in an excellent all-round team display and Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted.

Here's how we rated Spurs against Palace.

Hugo Lloris

Another poor early pass which was sent to the opposition, but made a couple of comfortable saves in either half. It wasn't the busiest of days for him as Spurs recorded their first clean sheet of the season. 6

Serge Aurier

That's one way to return to the team. First his low cross was turned into his own net by Van Aanholt and then he picked out Son with a deep cross which was volleyed home. Didn't have too much to do in a defensive sense but fired a shot at goal in the second half which was blocked by a covering defender. Certainly took his chance though on the day when it came with two assists. 9

Toby Alderweireld

Played like a quarterback at times, spraying some great passes around the pitch and found Son perfectly to score the opener. Dealt with anything that came his way at the back. Went over alone to acknowledge the south stand after the final whistle and got a rousing reception before Son followed suit. 9

Jan Vertonghen

Sat back more than Alderweireld and made an important block to take the sting out of a second half Benteke chance. 7

What Alasdair Gold learnt from Pochettino's press conference

Danny Rose

Dealt well with Wilfried Zaha down his side of the pitch. Left much of the attacking to those in front of him - Son, in the first half, and Lamela, in the second. Was replaced by Davies with 15 minutes to go. 8

Harry Winks

Had an early effort on goal in each half, one sent wide and another tested the keeper. Another busy display and put himself about, picking up a yellow card. 7

Moussa Sissoko

His usual energetic self and patrolled the midfield. Gave the ball away though for a Benteke chance later in the game. 7

Erik Lamela

A fifth straight start for Lamela and he slid home Spurs' fourth goal just before half-time. His movement was great and he worked so hard in helping Spurs retain or get possession back with some battling play in both halves. Could have had a second goal in the second half but was inches away from Eriksen's pass. 8

Christian Eriksen

The Dane was bright throughout even if his passing wasn't quite as incisive in the final third as it can be. 7

Son Heung-min

Sent an early shot into the keeper's arms but made no mistake with his first goal of the season, cutting inside and burying his shot from Alderweireld's pass. His second goal was even better, volleying home Aurier's cross at the back post. In the second half he chased down a loose ball and tried a clever chip over Guaita but it bounced into the side-netting. The last man off the pitch as he acknowledged the crowd in all stands. 9

Harry Kane

Linked up well with Son for an early chance for the South Korean star and curled a shot wide himself soon after. He played a wonderful ball across the penalty area for Lamela to slid home before the break.  In a game with so many goals and chances, the Spurs striker didn't actually get that much service but made space for others and supplied that great ball for Lamela's goal. 8

Subs

Tanguy Ndombele

Came on and got some minutes in his legs. Didn't contribute too much in a quiet end to the game. 6

Ben Davies

Replaced Rose in the final 15 minutes and also dealt well with Zaha on the whole. 6

Lucas Moura

Came off the bench in the final five minutes and won a couple of free-kicks after being hacked down while on the run. N/A
