Spurs player ratings: Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez dazzle in defeat with positives

Paulo Gazzaniga

Made a big save from Van Dijk in the first half but wasn't really called into action seriously again until late on with a low save from Origi. 6

Serge Aurier

Often seemed to be in a free role, at times infield rather than down the right. Plenty of those jogging back, disinterested moments but he set up Lo Celso for a great chance late on. 5

Davinson Sanchez

Solid first half and made a superb sliding tackle to deny Firmino just before the hour mark before striding away with the ball. One of his best performances this season. 8

Japhet Tanganga

The young defender started confidently with a big header, then interception and then an important block to stop Firmino's shot heading into the net. Turned cleverly by Firmino for Liverpool's goal after the half hour mark. Made further big interceptions at the back in the second half before switching to left-back when Rose went off. He might have been turned for the goal but he proved that he's a Premier League player. 8

Toby Alderweireld

The experienced head in the backline as he guided the two younger players either side. Spurs might just have found their new back three for the games ahead. 7

Danny Rose

His distribution was woeful at times and his positioning all over the shop. Hasn't started a Premier League game since October, also against Liverpool, and it showed. 3

Christian Eriksen

Like Rose his radar was off. He covered plenty of ground but when Spurs needed quality he didn't have it. If that ends up being his last appearance for Spurs then it will sadly sum up his final 12 months at the club after all the good that went before it. 3

Harry Winks

Battled away, got in Liverpool players' faces constantly with hassling and tackles, but wasn't sure what to do with the ball when he got up the pitch. Much better on the whole though, especially in the second half, from the young midfielder. 6

Dele Alli

His distribution was off for much of the game but he certainly wasn't shirking the challenge and worked incredibly hard in the second half. 6

Lucas Moura

Fired an effort just wide of the left-hand post in the opening minutes. He fought for everything and set up Son for a big opportunity in the second half. Was a constant pain to Liverpool. 7

Son Heung-min

Robbed Henderson of the ball early on and ran through only to shoot wide. Had a massive chance with 15 minutes to go but blazed it over and sent another at the keeper in the final minutes. He's better than that. 5

Subs

Erik Lamela

Again made an impact from the bench and curled a shot at the keeper in the final minutes. 6

Giovani Lo Celso

His sliding tackle set Spurs away for a chance which Son fired over. Slid in for a volley from Aurier's cross in the final ten minutes but could only steer it wide. Despite that made a big impact in the midfield and again showed how can step in for Eriksen. 7
