Spurs news: Winners & losers from Asia tour, true cost of new shirt deal, Alderweireld's future

Tottenham Hotspur's Asia tour has concluded.

Mauricio Pochettino's squad faced Serie A champions Juventus as well as fellow Premier League outfit Manchester United, while fans got to see  £63m summer signing Tanguy Ndombele in action following his move from Lyon.

The next two weeks is set to be dominated by more pre-season friendlies as well as more transfer dealings and ahead of what could be a busy fortnight, here's the news emerging from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Winners and losers

Mauricio Pochettino's side came from 2-1 down to beat Juventus in their opening game of the tour, with Harry Kane humiliating ex-Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny with a spectacular goal from near the halfway line.

The second match was a 2-1 loss against Man United, but it was more about the performances rather than result.

Read here as football.london takes a look at who would have caught Pochettino's eye as well as those who need to improve.

Shirt deal

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has got a great shirt deal with AIA.

It was announced on Thursday that Spurs had agreed a brand new eight-year deal with shirt sponsors AIA, the largest life insurance group in the world.

Initial estimates put the new deal at £40m a year but football.london understands that figure is closer to £44m, which means it is worth a staggering £352m over eight years to the north London outfit.

That represents an estimated £72m increase on what the previous deal would have brought in over a similar period of time.

The deal brings Spurs into line with London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal, putting them into the upper echelons of the Premier League when it comes to shirt sponsorship.

Alderweireld's future

July 25 has passed and that means the £25m release clause in Toby Alderweireld's contract has expired and he remains a Tottenham player.

But what happens now with the Belgium international?

Here we take a look at what could happen to the experienced defender over the coming months.

Talking points

There were a few takeaways from the pre-season tour to Asia.

What does the future hold for youngster Troy Parrott, what will be Pochettino's first-choice midfield pairing and will Dele Alli be back to his best in 2019/2020?

In addition, will Spurs complete deals for Argentine duo Paulo Dybala and Giovani Lo Celso before deadline day next month?
