Spurs news: Tottenham's 'most important player', Kane admission, Mourinho's impressive record

Tottenham boosted their chances of chasing down a top four spot with a 5-0 win against Burnley yesterday (Saturday).

It was a good day for Spurs and head coach Jose Mourinho, with the Lilywhites thrashing Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to move to within six points of rivals Chelsea in fourth.

Harry Kane bagged a brace in north London, with Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min and Moussa Sissoko also on target for Mourinho's men.

But it was also a first clean sheet at Spurs for Mourinho, having conceded two goals in each of his first four games in charge.

Peter Crouch: Mourinho is a 'breath of fresh air' for Spurs

Below, we look at the latest news following the game, including the reaction from Mourinho.

Mourinho's impressive record

Tottenham's victory against Burnley was an important one to keep them in the hunt for a top four finish, particularly with Chelsea losing out against Everton earlier in the day.

But the win was significant for another reason for Mourinho, with this being the first time a side managed by him has scored five goals in the Premier League since his second spell in charge of Chelsea, when the Blues beat Swansea 5-0 in January 2015.

Despite managing Manchester United for 93 league games, the Red Devils never managed to score five goals in a Premier League fixture during his time in charge.

But it has only taken five games at Spurs (four in the Premier League) to achieve that feat.

Meanwhile, the result also continued Mourinho's impressive record of never losing a Premier League game against Burnley, having faced the Clarets eight times in the top flight as a manager.

In those eight games, he has won five and drawn three.

Tottenham's 'most important player'

Son Heung-min was the man of the moment for Tottenham yesterday after his stunning goal against Burnley.

The South Korean wowed fans, pundits and team-mates alike with his superb solo effort, having picked up the ball on the edge of his own box, before taking on several Burnley players and finishing coolly past Nick Pope.

And former Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle made a bold statement about Son when asked if he felt the South Korean star was Tottenham’s most important player.

“I think he is,” he said, speaking on BT Sport’s Score programme.

“He can score, he can create, and he is a finisher.”

Kane admission

Harry Kane scored twice against Burnley, taking his tally to the season to 25 for club and country.

He has netted 15 of those for Spurs in all competitions, with nine of those coming in the Premier League.

But Mourinho said he will not play Harry Kane against Bayern Munich in the Champions League this week.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Mourinho said: "I don't know [if Troy Parrott will play]. I can say that Harry Kane will not play but who is going to play I need to think."

Mourinho's 'best day'

Scoring five goals and keeping a clean sheet is not a bad day for any team.

But for Mourinho, he was particularly pleased with keeping Burnley out, after Spurs had conceded eight goals in his first four games as head coach.

And he made that point when he spoke post-match to the BBC .

"There are still a few holes and chances to opponents but we were much, much, much more solid," he said.

"It's the best day because it is the complete performance. It was perfect."
