Spurs news: The January signing fans want, fresh transfer setback, Tottenham flop's 'big regret'

The weekend is almost here - and attention is back on the Premier League for Tottenham ahead of their clash with Wolves on Sunday.

Spurs may be back on home soil after their trip to Munich in the Champions League in midweek, but they are on the road again this weekend, with Jose Mourinho's men facing Wolves at Molineux.

Several Spurs stars missed out in midweek, either through injury or being rested, with the result against Bayern Munich having no bearing on the finishing positions for the two sides respectively.

Among those left behind in England were Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen and Serge Aurier, although all four are expected to be involved at Molineux this weekend.

Below, we take a look at the latest Spurs news ahead of the game with Nuno Espirito Santo's men.

The transfer the fans want in January

The January transfer window is just around the corner, with less than three weeks until the new year begins.

So who do Tottenham fans want to see arrive in north London next month?

Well, we asked, and Spurs fans have been telling football.london what they think Jose Mourinho needs in the winter transfer window.

We asked which positions needed the most attention, the one footballer they would like to see signed by Tottenham and the best and worst of the transfer rumours they had heard so far.

And the player who came out on top as the one Spurs fans would most like to sign was Paulo Dybala.

The Juventus star was heavily linked with Tottenham in the summer, but a deal failed to materialise, owing to a complicated image rights issue late on in the window.

Dybala has since scored seven goals in 19 appearances for the Serie A side in all competitions this season.

However, he continues to be linked with a move to Spurs , and the 26-year-old is the player Tottenham fans voting in our poll would most like to see join next month.

The Argentine topped the poll with 24.33% of fans voting him as the player Spurs should sign, if they could only buy one player in January.

Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes was second in the poll, with 14.82% of the vote, with OGC Nice full-back Youcef Atal third with 12.89% of the vote.

However, the OGC Nice star is expected to be out for a long time , after undergoing surgery on a knee injury sustained earlier this month.

Fresh transfer blow

Another player who has been linked with Spurs is Leicester Cityplaymaker James Maddison.

The Foxes star has been one of the standout performers for Brendan Rodgers' men, who currently sit second in the Premier League.

But while Maddison has attracted attention from Spurs and Manchester United, Rodgers has insisted that he will be going nowhere in January.

"If you're doing well, there will always be speculation," Rodgers told reporters.

"The boys understand that. Maddison has started the season very well, he's been very productive. He's a bright young player and he's got a bright future.

"There'll be no-one leaving in January. Categorically."

Tottenham flop's 'big regret'

It did not work out for Roberto Soldado at Tottenham.

The Spaniard made the move to north London in 2013 in a £26million deal, joining from Valencia where he had scored 81 times in three seasons.

But he only scored seven times in the Premier League for Spurs, with 16 goals in 76 appearances in all competitions during his time at the club.

He has since spent time at Villareal and Fenerbahce in recent seasons, before joining Granada in the summer.

However, he has been reflecting on his time at Tottenham in an interview with The Guardian , and he said that while he didn't regret moving to Tottenham, he regrets how his time in north London panned out.

“I don’t regret going to Tottenham at all, and I was convinced it would go well,” he said.

"I thought, with my style, my form, I was going to fit well – but when I went... well, it was completely the opposite. If there’s one thing I won’t be totally at peace with the day I retire it’s how I played in England.

“I always say that if there is one period of my career I’m not happy with, it’s my time at Tottenham."
