Spurs news: Serge Aurier slammed, talking points from Southampton, fans eye Ricardo Pereira

Three points were all that mattered to Tottenham on Saturday.

After a week in which they let a lead slip to lose against Leicester and then got knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Colchester United, getting a result was the main thing.

And even though it did not look like everything was going to plan, with a Serge Aurier red card and a Hugo Lloris howler, Spurs did secure a 2-1 win against the Saints, to move into the top four, if only for a matter of hours.

There was plenty to discuss from a weekend of drama in N17.

Talking points

If you’d have said before kick-off that the perfect match to get Spurs back on track would have been one that saw their right-back sent off and their captain commit one of the worst goalkeeping mistakes of recent years you’d have been laughed and pointed at, but weirdly it did the job...

Aurier slammed

Former Spurs right-back Alan Hutton has stated that Serge Aurier's poor decision making the led to a red card against Southampton could lead Mauricio Pochettino to view him as a liability.

The Ivory Coast international has been battling with Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth for a starting role at Spurs this season, but he did himself no favours in Saturday afternoon's clash.

'Trippier come back!'

What made Aurier's sending off even more difficult to swallow was Kieran Trippier's stunning performance against Real Madrid.

The full-back has been a revelation since leaving Tottenham in favour of a fresh challenge Atletico Madrid, where he has established himself as a key part of Diego Simeone's plans.

Ricardo Pereira

He has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur in the past - and Ricardo Pereira has got some Spurs fans talking on social media after scoring for Leicester City.
