Spurs news: Newcastle lineup, Perez told off, Carragher's crazy statement, Pochettino's plans

It's matchday for Tottenham Hotspur.

Mauricio Pochettino's side will be aiming to stay unbeaten as they host Newcastle United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs did not have much of the ball, or very many chances last time out against Manchester City, but came away with a creditable 2-2 draw.

This time around they will be looking for all three points.

Here are the biggest stories from around Spurs in the last 24 hours.

Bizarre Carragher comment

Sky Sports were at Anfield on Saturday night for Liverpool vs Arsenal.

But there was a moment after the game where Tottenham were brought into the pundits' conversation.

(Sky Sports Monday Night Football)

Liverpool had just dispatched with one of their big six rivals - the third straight weekend to start the season that two of the big six have gone up against one another.

And Jamie Carragher referenced Spurs' game with Manchester City the week before with a bizarre comment that will have riled up the Tottenham fans.

Here's what he said.

Pochettino's plans

Mauricio Pochettino will have a job on his hands to improve on last year at Spurs.

Tottenham finished fourth in the Premier League, which obviously can be improved upon, but if they improve on their Champions League performance they will be winning the glorious trophy.

Perez told off

Wherever Mauricio Pochettino goes, Jesus Perez goes with him.

The assistant manager sits alongside the Spurs boss during every press conference, acting as a translator if Pochettino ever gets lost.

The duo work well together and have a good relationship, but Pochettino was telling Perez off this week.

Thankfully, only in a playful manner.

Newcastle lineup

Tottenham take on Newcastle United on Sunday, with the carrot of moving up into third place in the table open to them if they win.

Mauricio Pochettino has a number of selection dilemmas on his hands, with Jan Vertonghen hoping to come back in, while Son Heung-min is available again after suspension.

Lucas Moura will be hoping to play after a goal against Manchester City, as will Erik Lamela.

Has Pochettino already given us a hint of his team selection though?
