Spurs news: Ndombele warning to Man City, Champions League squad, Alderweireld transfer latest

Tottenham take on Manchester City in their second game of the season on Saturday.

After getting the season off to a winning start, Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to make a real statement against the champions.

He has an almost fully-fit squad from which to choose, plus new signing Giovani Lo Celso if he feels the Argentinian is ready for his Premier League bow.

Here we round up the biggest Spurs stories from the past 24 hours.

Ndombele warning

After picking up a victory on the opening day of the season against Aston Villa, Tottenham face one of their stiffest challenges of the season on the second weekend of the new camapign.

Mauricio Pochettino takes his team to Manchester City - the two-time Premier League champions.

It is an early test of whether or not spurs can cut the deficit to City and Liverpool and make a real challenge for the title this season.

And they have a player in their ranks who shone against Man City last year, albeit in a different shirt.

We take a look at the Tanguy Ndombele Champions League masterclass that had City on the back foot.

Curious case of Toby Alderweireld

Toby Alderweireld is still at Tottenham.

And that will have come as a shock to the Spurs supporters, who were expecting him to leave this summer.

He had a £25million release clause, that no one took up. His contract is up next summer and can leave for free.

So what's the latest with the Belgian centre-back?

Here's what we know.

Champions League squad

Mauricio Pochettino will have to name his Champions League squad in the coming weeks with the group stage draw set to take place very soon.

In the competition for the fourth season on the trot, Tottenham will find out their opponents when the draw is staged in Monaco on Thursday, August 29.

While the pots still have to be finalised given qualification is still going on, Spurs will be in pot two after missing out on the top pot following their Champions League final defeat against Liverpool back in June.

Here's what the signings of Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon mean for the squad.

Winners and losers

There were some good performances and some less so against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Three points were all that mattered in the end, but after a good pre-season, some players were not quite up to the task.

And with new signings coming in, their positions could be under threat.

Here are the winners and loser from the Villa triumph.
