Spurs news: Mourinho reveals transfer plans, Soumare offer, lineup vs Southampton, Rose injury

That's it, 2019 is over and 2020 has begun.

For all the negativity that has come Spurs' way in the recent past, 2019 saw the club reach the Champions League final for the first time in their history and it can therefore only be regarded as a successful year.

So what does 2020 hold for the club now Jose Mourinho is at the helm?

The January transfer window is open now, so we take a look at that and how the club will start the new year in our round-up of the biggest stories from N17 in the past 24 hours.

What to expect from Tottenham in the January transfer window

January transfer plans

With the January transfer window opening today questions will consistently be asked of Premier League managers about their targets.

Jose Mourinho has previously said he is happy with the squad he had at his disposal, but he is not known for resting on his laurels.

And should the perfect opportunity arise, he will be sure to make chairman Daniel Levy aware.

The Portuguese has been asked about the need to sign defenders in January.

Here's what he said.

Christmas gifts must stop

Mourinho has already made a mark on the Spurs squad.

But performances and results have not yet hit the required Mourinho standard.

Twice Spurs have had chances to move above Chelsea and into fourth place in the Premier League, twice they have failed.

And the Spurs boss has told his players to stop giving gifts to the opposition.

Soumare offer

One player who has been linked with a move to Tottenham is Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare.

But Spurs are not the only ones to be keen on the youngster.

Manchester United have also been credited with an interest.

And his club Lille have revealed that there have been several proposals to sign him.

Danny Rose update

The full-back areas have been a cause for concern for Tottenham this season.

Kieran Trippier left the club in the summer and Serge Aurier has struggled to maintain good form at right-back.

At left-back no player has managed to hold down a regular place, with Danny Rose, Ben Davies and now Jan Vertonghen playing there.

Vertonghen has looked shaky of late, but with Davies and Rose sidelined, he looks set to stay.

So how far away from a return to the starting XI is Rose?

Mourinho explains here.

Southampton lineup

Who will be in the starting lineup to take on Southampton this afternoon?

With games coming thick and fast at this time of year, Jose Mourinho is sure to mix up his starting XI for the clash against the Saints.

Following a draw against Norwich on Saturday, Spurs will be looking to get back on track with three points to move into contention with Chelsea for a top-four finish again.

Here's how they could lineup.
