Spurs news: Mauricio Pochettino makes January transfer window admission

There continues to be something of a cloud hanging over Tottenham this season.

Six games into the Premier League season and it's two wins, two draws and two defeats.

The subject of throwing away leads is rife, with Spurs having done so in three of their last four games.

They are well off the pace at the top of the table already, with Liverpool so far relentless, having won all six games.

Spurs were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties last night. All the details from that, as well as the best of the other big news stories from the past 24 hours is right here for you.

Pochettino's Man United appeal

Manchester United appear to be in a quandary.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have won two, drawn two and lost two so far this season, leaving them just behind Spurs in the Premier League table, in eighth place.

Could the Norwegian's time at Old Trafford soon be up?

The rumours around Mauricio Pochettino's future will soon surface again and one pundit thinks there is a certain appeal about United that will hold for Pochettino.

Here's what he said.

The Best voting

FIFA's The Best award was won by Lionel Messi on Monday night.

The Argentinian superstar scored 54 goals in 58 games for club and country in 2018/19, winning the La Liga title and helping his team to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

The captains, coaches and a selected media representative from all of FIFA's nations pick their first, second and third choice for the award.

And that meant three Spurs players got to vote - Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris.

Here's how they voted.

Match action

Spurs were knocked out by Colchester on penalties after a 0-0 draw in normal time.

It was a disappointing performance from Mauricio Pochettino's side, especially with the introduction of Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min in the second half.

Mauricio Pochettino on the January transfer window

Speaking after the Colchester game, Mauricio Pochettino admitted he wants Spurs to 'fix' the problems which his side is currently experiencing.

He said: "Look, I am only telling you how I feel. We are working so hard to try and put on the same page. We need time, we are going to have time to fix that. January is going to be a good opportunity to try and fix this type of situation and sort it.

"Then the next transfer window, again. That’s the problem when something happens and you cannot control – this type of situation can arrive. I’m more than happy to be in that situation, it means we are human.

"To keep the successful period in football you need to be different every single season and act differently and find different solution. Maybe we need to do something different and we are trying to find the way to start to perform and get the results we expect."
