Spurs news: Lloris breaks silence, the Liverpool star to challenge Winks, Parrott's message

The weekend is upon us, but there is no game for Tottenham owing to the international break.

Spurs have a week without a game with several stars off around the world in action for their respective countries during the third international break of the season so far.

This is the last break in the Premier League schedule of 2019, with no further international fixtures until March, but preparations are underway at Hotspur Way for the London derby with West Ham United next weekend when the Premier League returns.

And ahead of that, we take a look at the latest Spurs news, below.

Hugo Lloris injury update

Spurs have been without their number one, Hugo Lloris, since early October, when he sustained a dislocated elbow in Tottenham's 3-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The injury was expected to keep him out until January, but Spurs announced last week that following further clinical testing and examination, Lloris had undergone surgery on his elbow. That procedure was advised after further reviews by specialists found the elbow remained unstable.

As such, the Frenchman could now be out for a little longer than first thought.

But he has now spoken about his recovery and believes he is on target to return in January.

"Everything is well. There can always be hazards, but my goal is to be ready for January," he told French media outlet M6 .

"Whether it's the beginning, the middle or the end, I don't know. In any case, I'll take time to make sure I'm well healed and that I can come back in top form."

Liverpool star's threat to Harry Winks' England place

Harry Winks started in midfield for England at Wembley on Thursday night, impressing in a 7-0 win against Montenegro.

But while the Spurs midfielder put in a good performance, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes he could soon find his place under threat - from an unlikely source.

Speaking about Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, Keown told talkSPORT : "He is an absolute a joy to watch play. It was as if he was wandering around Wembley with a golf bag, picking up a pitching wedge or a seven iron.

"The capability he has with his left foot, right foot…. I was sat with Sol Campbell trying to argue that he should play centre midfield for England.

"Traditionally you give the ball to a midfield player and he is a better player than you and a midfield player gives it to a front player who is also perhaps better than that player. When Winks gets the ball, is he better than Alexander-Arnold?

"I take nothing away from Winks because he had another decent night last night but I think Alexander-Arnold could go in there and pull the strings for England."

Parrott's response to Ireland debut

It was a big night for Tottenham striker Troy Parrott on Thursday as he made his senior international debut for Republic of Ireland.

The 17-year-old Spurs striker was handed a start by Ireland manager Mick McCarthy in the friendly against New Zealand.

Parrott did not look out of place on the international stage and popped up with an assist in the second half, battling for the ball and laying it off to Sean Maguire to score Ireland's second goal in their 3-1 victory.

The Spurs teenager had a big chance of his own moments later, but was denied by the goalkeeper before being substituted soon after having made a big impression on the crowd.

And after the match, Parrott took to social media to sum up his experience, with a picture of himself, accompanied by the following message: "One word. Wow."
