Spurs news: Jose Mourinho's Moussa Sissoko hint, January transfer plans, Burnley injury latest

It is match day for Tottenham as they host Burnley in the Premier League this afternoon (Saturday).

Jose Mourinho's men welcome the Clarets to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Spurs looking for a return to winning ways after a first defeat since the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager took charge.

The 2-1 defeat against United at Old Trafford on Wednesday was a disappointing performance for Mourinho, and he will want a reaction against Sean Dyche's side.

But what is the latest news ahead of the game?

Jose Mourinho accepts Manchester united deserved to win

We take a look below.

The latest injury news

Spurs will be without four players for the ame against Burnley.

Goalkeepers Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm are both currently sidelined, while Erik Lamela and Ben Davies are also continuing their rehabilitation from injuries and will miss out.

Meanwhile, Burnley could be boosted by the return of striker Ashley Barnes.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche said at his pre-match press conference that Barnes has a "strong chance" of featuring in north London, despite having a groin injury.

Midfielder Ashley Westwood also faces a late check following a groin injury.

Mourinho's Sissoko hint

Moussa Sissoko has proved his worth to Tottenham in recent seasons, with the former Newcastle man playing in a number of different positions for the Lilywhites.

While he has played the majority of games for Spurs in the centre of midfield, he has also at times filled in at right-back and played in a more advanced position, including last week against Bournemouth.

But while he has hailed his versatility, Jose Mourinho has dropped a hint over where he sees him playing long-term in his side.

"One of the good things is that we can consider him multi-functional and he can play in various positions," said Mourinho, speaking at his pre-match press conference .

"But honestly, I don’t think he’s a midfield player in a core position, No 6 or a double 6. I don’t think Moussa is that. But he played in that position last match because sometimes the needs of team are more important than the player.

"I think best position for Moussa is when the team plays with a positional midfielder and he has freedom to go, or from the right like he did against Bournemouth with Serge [Aurier] coming from the wide side and Moussa more central.

January transfer plans

The January transfer window is now less than one month away.

But Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has been coy over what Tottenham need in the transfer market.

When asked at his pre-match press conference ahead of the game with Burnley this weekend whether Spurs need more defenders in January, having conceded eight goals in his four games in charge, Mourinho gave a curious response.

"It’s not the defence. It’s the defensive process which is a different thing," he said.

"When we speak about defence we speak about keepers, centre-backs, the mistakes you make at the back.

"That's not the way I look at things.

"I don’t look at individuals but the defensive process, and that belongs to 11 players on the pitch. It is in our organisation that we have to resolve our problems, not about one players, or signings. It's a process."
