Spurs news: Jan Vertonghen delivers new contract update, huge Bayern boost, prickly Pochettino

Another Champions League week is upon us.

And for Tottenham this is the big one in the group stages - Bayern Munich at home.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium under the lights will be quite the stage as the two teams expected to qualify from Group B go head-to-head.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has held his press conference ahead of the game and he was joined by defender Jan Vertonghen.

Snippets from that and much more are below in our roundup of all the biggest news stories from around Spurs in the last 24 hours.

What happened in training?

The rules around the Champions League are different to that in the Premier League.

And that means the media are allowed to go and watch open training ahead of matches.

It gives us an insight into who might be fit for the game and the way manager Mauricio Pochettino might line up.

Spurs taken on Bayern Munich at Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium on Tuesday night, knowing a win will put them right in the mix at the top of the group having drawn their first match 2-2 away at Olympiacos.

Here's what we learned from training.

Jan Vertonghen contract talks

Centre-back Jan Vertonghen was one of the players seemingly unsettled at the start of this season.

The Belgian defender has been one of Tottenham's standout players in the last few years, a virtual ever-present in the heart of the defence.

But his contract is at an end at the end of this campaign and he was left out of the starting lineup at the beginning of the campaign.

He has admitted that he is happy at the club, but no new contract has been forthcoming.

And ahead of the game with Bayern, Vertonghen has delivered an update on contract talks.

Prickly Pochettino

It was a simple enough question, but did not bear a simple answer.

football.london wanted to know what Moussa Sissoko's new four-year contract at the age of 30 meant for the club moving forward.

It is, after all, unlike Spurs to hand out such long contracts to players of that age.

But the manager kept his response short in a prickly answer.

But we think there may have been a good reason for that.

Bayern boost

Won four, drawn two.

That is Bayern Munich's record in the Bundesliga so far this season.

They arrive in north London hoping to make it two wins from two in the Champions League group stages.

But they may have to do so without one of their key players.

There have been question marks over a number of Nico Kovac's side, but one in particular was missing from training on Monday.
