Spurs news: Gomes' message, Red Star player ratings, Lo Celso verdict and Son's celebration

Tottenham Hotspur have one foot in the Champions League knockout phase following a 4-0 win over Red Star.

The Lilywhites went into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park at the weekend, and the European game offered a chance to show they had finally turned a corner.

It proved to be a comfortable night for Mauricio Pochettino's side as they were ruthless against a side they put five past in the home meeting a couple of weeks ago.

The north London outfit don't have long to celebrate the win out as they're back in action on Saturday as they host a Sheffield United side which has already beaten Arsenal this season.

Having struggled in the league recently, victory is essential ahead of the November international break.

With that said, here's all the news from around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Player ratings vs Red Star

Tottenham's hopes of reaching successive Champions League finals remains alive, thanks in part to a brace from Son Heung-min.

The South Korea international took his tally to seven for the season across all competition by finding the back of the net twice in the second half against Red Star.

There was also an impressive showing from Giovani Lo Celso on his full debut, while there was also a glimpse of Ryan Sessegnon's quality in Christian Eriksen's goal.

Son praised

Gary Lineker praised Son for his classy celebration after scoring his first goal of the night.

On Sunday, the forward was visibly distraught after a challenge on Everton midfielder Andre Gomes left the Portugal international with a horrific injury, with Son subsequently earning a red card.

Gomes was still on Son's mind as he appeared to dedicate his first goal against the Serbian side to the stricken midfielder, who underwent ankle surgery this week.

That earned praise from BT Sport pundit Lineker , who was hosting the evening's action, and he took to social media to share his thoughts on the classy behaviour from Son.

"Son scores a super goal and goes to the camera and says sorry down the lens, presumably aimed at Andre Gomes. Nice touch," he posted on Twitter.

Lo Celso verdict

Pochettino's team made the best possible start against Red Star with Giovani Lo Celso hitting his first goal for the club after a mad scramble in the area.

Then in the second half Son Heung-min hit a quickfire double and Christian Eriksen to put the result beyond any doubt in the closing minutes.

The result now means that Spurs can seal a place in the final 16 of the competition with one game to spare if they beat Olympiacos in their next match.
