Three points were all that mattered to Tottenham on Saturday.
After a week in which they let a lead slip to lose against Leicester and then got knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Colchester United, getting a result was the main thing.
And even though it did not look like everything was going to plan, with a Serge Aurier red card and a Hugo Lloris howler, Spurs did secure a 2-1 win against the Saints, to move into the top four, if only for a matter of hours.

Serge Aurier apology
Serge Aurier could have been the bad guy on Saturday.
But three points from Spurs saved the Ivorian from being the villain of the piece.
Aurier was sent off in the first half against Southampton, when Spurs were leading 1-0.
And had they gone on to lose the game, fingers would have been pointed at the full-back.
He openly admitted he was wrong on his official Instagram page.

Match action
It was an entertaining game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
As well as the three goals and that red card, there was a goalkeeping howler from Hugo Lloris.

As the captain there was nowhere to hide for Hugo Lloris.
He made a huge mistake during the game with Southampton, but did make up for it with a couple of excellent saves.
And he fronted up after the game, as the captain should, by owning up to his error.

Danish star Christian Eriksen flattered to deceive for much of the match against Southampton.
It is not the first time this season that the playmaker has struggled to grab a game by the scruff of the neck and stand out from the crowd, getting Spurs on the front foot.
