Spurs news: Alderweireld prediction, Jack Clarke's new position and Eriksen's future latest

Pre-season is now well underway for Spurs, as players and staff have arrived back at Enfield in order to start their preparations for the new campaign.

Tottenham are back in action for their first pre-season fixture on Sunday (21st July), when they take on Italian giants Juventus in the International Champions Cup fixture in Singapore.

While they are working ahead of the new season, Pochettino and his back room staff will be working hard in order to bring new faces to the club. Spurs have been linked to a number of players, including William Saliba, Giovanni Lo Celso and Nicolo Zaniolo, with Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke already arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Take a look below for all of the biggest stories from around the North London over the last 24 hours.

Alderweireld prediction

Former Spurs man Pascal Chimbonda has made a prediction about defender Toby Alderwereld's future at the club that will go down well with Tottenham fans.

There is an uncertainty over where the Belgian will be playing his football next season, as he has a well known £25m release clause in his contract, although that clause is quickly running out.

Roma have been credited with a interest in the defender, but Chimbonda doesn't think that Alderweireld will be leaving Tottenham this summer.

"Alderweireld will only leave Tottenham for one of Europe’s elite clubs," he told Sportingbet . "There seems to be a wage issue between him and the club, but as a player you also want to be playing at the highest level and I can’t see him taking a step backwards to earn more."

Jack Clarke's new position

Tottenham's first signings of the summer was Leeds United wide man Jack Clarke, although Spurs fans won't be seeing him in a Tottenham shirt for another season.

As part of the deal, the youngster has returned to his former club on a loan deal for the 2019/20 season, meaning that Tottenham fans will be following Leeds games closely this season.

Clarke has been taking part in pre-season, but has found himself in a unfamiliar position under Marco Bielsa for the past two friendly games.

Take a look here to see why it could cause Pochettino a selection headache for the 20120/21 season.

Eriksen running out of options?

One of the transfer sagas of the summer is set to be if Christian Eriksen leaves Spurs, and if so who he will go to.

The Danish international admitted last month that he would like a new challenge amid speculation that Real Madrid were lining up a move for him.

According to the Guardian, only a handful of clubs have the resources to offer Tottenham what they are asking for the midfielder, with Manchester United's failure to reach the Champions League meaning that they are not an option.

Therefore, options for a summer move for Eriksen may be running out, meaning that a stay at Tottenham beyond the summer is not out the realm of possibility.
