Spurs loan ace sends message to Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen ahead of Euro qualifier

Anthony Georgiou is relishing Sunday's EURO 2020 qualifier between Cyprus and Belgium.

The 22-year-old claimed an assist as his national side got off to a great start with a 5-0 thrashing of San Marino on Thursday evening and now face the favourites from Group I at the weekend.

Last summer's World Cup semi-finalists also got off to a winning start as a brace from Chelsea's Eden Hazard inspired Roberto Martinez's side to a 3-1 success over Russia.

The Red Devils will start the game as the overwhelming favourites, but Georgiou says the Cypriots are optimistic ahead of the game.

Furthermore, Sunday's meeting pits the midfielder against two familiar names in Spurs defensive duo Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, and Georgiou has a message for the pair.

"I am very happy, it was a good win and a positive start," he told reporters after the game. "It was positive we won but we also kept zero passive.

"We have a good group of footballers and we are trying to improve. I think we can go far. We have very good footballers. Everyone is optimistic about what we can achieve and look forward.

"We are happy with our performance but we have to rest and prepare for Belgium with optimism. Some players in Tottenham are in the Belgium national team, I know them and are very good footballers.

"All players will give 100% to Belgium."

Georgiou left the Lilywhites on loan during the January transfer window as he joined La Liga outfit Levante for the remainder of the season and despite not making a senior appearance just yet, he's pleased with how it's gone so far.

"I'm happy in Levante, I'm gathering experiences," he added.

"I'm watching Tottenham Hotspur. I am always optimistic and I think they will beat Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.
