Spurs & Liverpool fans will love what BT Sport pundit said ahead of Champions League semi-finals

Robbie Savage insists that Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City should be celebrated and not criticised if they fail to win trophies.

This season has been one of the closest title races in recent years in the Premier League, with Liverpool and Manchester City going head-to-head at the summit, with the race set to go to the final day of the season.

Liverpool currently sit two points above their title rivals at the top of the table after a thrilling 3-2 win at Newcastle United on Saturday, although Manchester City have their fate in their own hands, with a home game against Leicester City this evening (Monday), before they finish the campaign against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, while Liverpool host Wolves at the same time.

What Arsenal's draw against Brighton means for Chelsea and Spurs in the battle for the top four

Two wins for City would see them crowned champions once again, after winning the Premier League title for a third time last season.

But Liverpool could end up finishing on 97 points and still not win the title, if they beat Wolves while City win both of their remaining matches.

If that were to be the case, it could be another season without a trophy for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, who have earned plenty of plaudits for their performances so far this season.

And it is a criticism that has also been levelled at Tottenham in recent seasons, despite their improvement under Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs, who are well placed to finish in the top four this season, could end that criticism over a lack of trophies with success in the Champions League this season, having knocked out Manchester City in the quarter-final of the competition, on away goals, ending City's quest to win a quadruple this season in the process.

But Spurs are 1-0 down going into the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Ajax this week, with Pochettino's men having to try and overturn the deficit without top scorer Harry Kane, who is currently out injured.

Liverpool are also in the Champions League semi-finals, but face a tough task this week at Anfield, being 3-0 down from the first leg against Barcelona.

However, whether they win their respective ties or not, BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage insists that Spurs and Liverpool should not be criticised, having done well in both the Premier League and in Europe this season.

“Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City should all be celebrated, not hammered by some idiots who will say ‘oh Tottenham are struggling’ or ‘If Liverpool don’t win the league, they have bottled it’," he said, speaking after Tottenham's 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday.

“No they haven’t. Liverpool are one of the best teams we have seen in the Premier League."

Liverpool host Barcelona tomorrow (Tuesday), with Spurs' second leg against Ajax taking place on Wednesday.
