Spurs injury to Harry Kane could hand Manchester City big title advantage over Liverpool

Manchester City have been handed a potential advantage in the Premier League title race with Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola’s side tackle Tottenham Hotspur three times in the next couple of weeks - tonight in the Champions League, in the return leg and also in the league.

But City have been given a boost which could prove to be significant in the title race, after Harry Kane limped off with an injury during the second-half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this evening.

Kane was forced off with what appeared to be ankle damage after a challenge with Fabian Delph.

The Spurs striker immediately retreated down the tunnel, where he had to be assisted by two people in order to keep the weight off his injured foot. He later left the stadium on crutches.

And Mauricio Pochettino confirmed after following the game that Spurs fear the worst for their star man.

He said: "Of course we need to check tomorrow but it looks like it's the same ankle and a similar issue. It's very, very sad, we're very disappointed.

"It's going to be tough and we are going to miss him - maybe until the end of the season."

That could prove to be crucial as City, already favourites for the clash at the Etihad Stadium, may not have to face off against Tottenham’s leading man in the league match - and potentially face an easier time in the second leg of their Champions League tie also.

That is bad news for Liverpool, who are hoping Spurs will do them a favour against Guardiola’s men, and it raises the importance of the clash with Chelsea at Anfield - where the Reds will face off against an in form Eden Hazard.
