'Spurs in the mud!' - Chelsea fans mock Tottenham after Blues hijack Jules Kounde talks

Chelsea fans have been mocking Spurs after the club have opened talks with current Sevilla centre-back and Tottenham target Jules Kounde.

Kounde, 22, has many admirers amongst the west Londoners' hierarchy and this has prompted the club to overtake Paratici and co in the race to sign the Frenchman.

It had been reported that the 22-year-old's parent club Sevilla had agreed a deal in principle with Spurs for the sale of Kounde, but the player himself turned down this opportunity and wanted only to move to a club that will be competing in next season's Champions League.

Up step the Blues who have now opened talks with the Spanish side for the acquisition of one of their most prised assets.

Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest on the Frenchman.

His tweet read: 'EXCL. Jules Kounde deal update: Chelsea are in advanced talks with Sevilla and Kurt Zouma could be included in the negotiation.

'Possible swap deal to go through in the next hours/days with Zouma + money for Kounde to Chelsea.

'Personal terms agreed for Kounde until 2026.'

This update has excited many Blues fans, who are keen for the Willian transfer saga - when Chelsea snatched him away from the clutches of Spurs at the last - to repeat itself again in this scenario.

Chelsea fans react after the Blues open Jules Kounde talks (Chelsea fans)

Here's how a select number of Chelsea fans reacted to the latest Kounde developments on Twitter.

@onesh_25 has expressed his relief in seeing the club finally make progress in acquiring incoming signings this summer: 'Finally We can breathe !'

@Benjikov has concluded: 'Chelsea working in silence.'

@ssfff907 has pointed out: 'Decent move but need a striker desperately.'

@tozserg92 has given his three-word verdict on the Sevilla defender: 'What a player!'

@mannyrod25 is buzzing: 'Let's go!!!!!!! That kid can play.'

@akaRambro tweeted: 'Jules already a legend for turning down Spurs. Let him debut against Spurs and UCL trophy parade. Get it done CFC.'

Not all Chelsea fans share Manny's optimism with some questioning why the club are pursuing a central defender when there are other pressing needs that have to be sorted before the season starts, like signing a striker and a central midfielder.

@JimmyFunnellCFC explained: 'Spurs in the mud.

'But honestly, how are we prioritizing a signing at CB when there are 2 positions of greater need?

'And you don't need to be an 'expert' to see that, come on.'

@ifi_david gave his thoughts: 'Kounde? Do we really need a new CB with the options we have?'

@Bowie1717 gave his opinion: 'We're a joke atm.

'Centre forward should be the absolute priority unless we already agreed with BVB and they're looking for the replacement, but don't think that's the situation.'

An update was provided after the initial news broke on the talks between the two clubs, with it being revealed that Kurt Zouma was to be involved in a potential part-exchange swap deal.

This is how a few fans reacted to Kurt Zouma being included in the deal.

@matissearmani put: 'Much better deal than selling him to Spurs.'

@JackClarkeeCFC gave his two-word verdict: 'good swap'

Even rival fans are praising the west London club on this potential swap deal.

@Agueroprop said: 'that’s brilliant business.'

However. not all Blues fans were keen on the proposed move of sending Zouma the other way in order to try and seal the deal between the two parties.

@sleepyfeeney has stated: 'That's poor from Chelsea doing that.

'He [Zouma] is the most powerful defender we have and scored so many goals last season. Poor Chelsea.'

Regardless of what the eventual outcome is in these Kounde talks, Blues fans are on the whole are happy to see Marina Granovskaia and co starting to make active moves when it comes to signing key targets this summer.
