Spurs fans will love who Chelsea ace N'Golo Kante voted for as his French Footballer of the Year

Kylian Mbappe capped off an impressive 2019 by claiming the French Footballer of the Year award for the second year in succession.

Outstanding in 2018 as he played a pivotal role in helping his country win the World Cup for the first time since 1998 and leading Paris Saint-Germain to domestic glory, the 21-year-old beat off a host of top names to the gong.

The winner of the award, which is presented annually by French magazine France Football, is actually chosen by former winners of the prize.

That means the likes of French greats Zinedine Zidane, Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry all get to cast their vote for the winner, with Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante also getting his say having been named Footballer of the Year in his home country back in 2017.

Tottenham: A look back at 2019

So who exactly did he vote for?

Instead of going for the obvious and voting for Mbappe as his top choice, the midfielder actually voted for a certain Tottenham player.

In a surprise to many, Kante named Moussa Sissoko as his top French footballer in 2019 after an outstanding year in north London.

On the periphery of the team after an extremely mixed start to his Spurs career, the midfielder took his chance in Mauricio Pochettino's team last year and didn't look back.

The 30-year-old was like a totally different player for the Lilywhites as he helped them reach the Champions League final against the odds.

Kante then also chose Spurs shot-stopper Hugo Lloris as his second choice for the gong, with PSG ace Mbappe coming in third.

Get French Football News have since published a number of the voting from the past winners and Sissoko did come in fourth in Karim Benzema's selection.

Tanguy Ndombele was one place ahead of his current teammate in the Real Madrid striker's voting, with Mbappe also selecting the summer signing from Lyon.

While he may not have come out on top overall, Sissoko certainly did make an impression on a number of his compatriots after an excellent year for Spurs.
