Spurs fans will love what Sergio Ramos has said about Christian Eriksen alternative Paul Pogba

Sergio Ramos has told Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba that he would be welcomed at Real Madrid if he were to leave Old Trafford after a summer that saw Christian Eriksen linked with a move to the Bernabeu.

The Tottenham Hotspur playmaker was a player of interest to the Spanish giants as they struggled to agree a deal for their main target.

Mauricio Pochettino cut a frustrated figure in the final weeks of the European transfer window following the close of business in the Premier League as speculation mounted that he would lose the Danish international.

Eriksen himself spoke out about his interest in finding a new challenge after Spurs reached the final of the Champions League last season only to lose to Liverpool in Madrid.

The 27-year-old, formerly of Ajax, has long been compared with Luka Modric, who made his own move from Tottenham to join Real in 2012.

However, club captain Ramos has talked up the prospect of seeing Pogba make the switch to the 13-time European champions himself.

"For me, Pogba is one of the great players," he told the Express .

"He is different and he has shown his value at Juventus and now Manchester United.

"I think he brings balance to a team. He has a great offensive influence and he has this amazing physique."

Pogba won the World Cup with France in 2018 after reaching the final of the European Championship in 2016 in his homeland, only to lose to Portugal.

After winning four league titles in Italy with Juventus between 2013 and 2016, along with the Coppa Italia on two occasions, the 26-year-old is still to lift the Premier League trophy in England.

In 2017, he won the Europa League and League Cup but saw his form decline under ex-Real manager Jose Mourinho.

His potential departure from United dominated headlines over the summer even after his revival under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season.

According to Ramos, he remains a player that the Real Madrid dressing room would like to add to their number.

“I think Real Madrid always has the door open for good players such as him," he said.

Good news for Tottenham and their hopes of convincing Eriksen his future remains in north London, although with the Dane's contract set to expire in June 2020, Spurs face the prospect of losing him for nothing next year unless he signs a new deal.
