Spurs fans will love what Jan Vertonghen has said ahead of Champions League final vs Liverpool

Jan Vertonghen has stated he is feeling "super good" ahead of Saturday's Champions League final against Liverpool.

Spurs fans were left sweating over the player's fitness after he was spotted leaving the Johan Cruijff ArenA on crutches following the thrilling 3-2 victory over Ajax in the semi-final second leg.

Vertonghen was not named in the squad on the final day of the Premier League season against Everton, thus seeing Eric Dier move into the heart of defence following a host of injuries and suspension.

However, supporters were given some good news last week with the club tweeting an image of the player alongside Harry Kane and Davinson Sanchez stepping up his fitness at Hotspur Way.

Now in the lead up to the game after a long wait following the end of the league season, Vertonghen has revealed that he is in good shape for Saturday's showdown against the Reds.

"I have fully trained with the squad last week," he told VTM Nieuws . "I feel good - super good.

"I have an history of ankle injuries, but I was only worried for half an hour - just after the Ajax game.

"The first assessments were positive - and you have to know that our physios are always very cautious. That gave me confidence.

"Still you have to wait for the scans, but they confirmed the diagnosis. After three days I got rid of the protective boot and the crutches."

Mauricio Pochettino also revealed at his press conference on Monday afternoon that Harry Winks, Kane and Sanchez are all progressing well as the final draws ever closer.

"I think Harry Kane is in the last week, Friday and Saturday, start to be involved with the group," he said.

"Very positive the situation with him. We have one week ahead to see how he is progressing.

"It’s so important that he feels well and he’s very positive. We’ll see what happens.

"I cannot say if he’ll be 100% fit or starting, or on the bench or out. But good progression like Winks, Vertonghen and Sanchez in the same final."
