England boss Gareth Southgate has heaped praise upon Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks, after naming him in the starting line-up against Bulgaria.
The Three Lions boss made five changes to his side following the defeat to the Czech Republic on Friday, with Winks among those benefiting to earn another England cap.
Winks has become a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino's side this season and his performances have seen him fight back in Southgate's plans for the national side.
While he has plenty of competition to retain his spot, Southgate's comments about Winks ahead of the match suggested there could be a regular spot for him in the midfield.
“We know he’s a really good footballer and connects the game. We didn’t do that very well on Friday," he told ITV.
“I think the balance of the game is likely to be that Bulgaria will sit back and we will be required to break them down, so he’s probably a good as a midfield player that we’ve got in the country at connecting back to front so it’s a really good opportunity for Harry.”
