Spurs fans will love what Chris Hughton has said about the battle with Chelsea for the top four

Chris Hughton believes Tottenham are favourites to finish in the Premier League top four this season, ahead of London rivals Chelsea.

Spurs missed out on the chance to overtake their city rivals and move into fourth as they drew 2-2 with Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Jose Mourinho’s side had to come from behind twice in order to pick up a point, with Christian Eriksen’s free-kick and Harry Kane’s penalty responding to Mario Vrancic’s opener and Serge Aurier’s own goal.

The result means Spurs find themselves two points off the top four, with Chelsea holding a game in hand as they come up against Arsenal on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho: Harry Kane is fantastic

But, speaking on Sky Sports, former Tottenham defender Hughton believes Spurs still hold an advantage over the Blues in the race for a Champions League place next season.

“I think they probably are (favourites) at this moment,” Hughton said.

“What they have got, they’re obviously on a very good run, disappointment today and again they felt they should have won before the game.

“But I think in regard to the squad that they’ve got, Eriksen coming back in, Alli on good form, and when you’ve got somebody like Harry Kane who you know is always going to score goals, then at this moment I would still see them as favourites.

“The ones behind, I look at Wolves who I think have been outstanding, so have Sheffield United, but they’re probably going into territory that they’re not used to.

“Chelsea can be brilliant on one day and also brilliant on another, but not win. I think they’ve (Tottenham) got back that consistency, but they’ll have to keep that going, because I think they’ll be hard pushed.”
