Spurs fans will hate what Graeme Souness said about Tottenham after defeat against West Ham

Graeme Souness gave a scathing assessment of Tottenham Hotspur's defeat to West Ham, calling it 'Spursy'.

The north London side looked jaded as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Hammers - the first defeat since moving into the new stadium.

It's been a frantic few weeks for Mauricio Pochettino's side after progressing to the Champions League semi-finals and it appears that such a run is starting to take its toll given the injuries to star players such as Harry Kane.

Antonio's goal, jaded Spurs and Janssen's miss - what the pundits said about defeat to West Ham

Speaking to Sky Sports, Souness says that it seems that a lack of depth in the Spurs squad is starting to prove costly.

He said: "Yeah, I think this is just the lack of numbers for Spurs coming back to bite them.

"We spoke about it before, they’ve done fabulously well to get to the semi-finals of the European Cup, but it’s come back to bite them.

The Spurs manager who transformed Teddy Sheringham's game leading to Man United treble success

"They couldn’t freshen it up, and I hate to say it, but it was a bit Spursy.

"When push comes to shove they knew how vital it was. I put it down to the quality outside the 13, 14, players isn’t there for them."
