Spurs defender Serge Aurier responds to spitting claim after Tottenham's win against Olympiacos

He may have been one of the heroes for Tottenham on a dramatic evening against Olympiacos last night (Tuesday) but Serge Aurier has taken to social media today to deny claims that he spat in the direction of supporters.

The Spurs defender netted the third goal as the hosts came from two goals down to win 4-2 against the Greek side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, ensuring their qualification for the knockout stages of the competition in the process.

But it was suggested by some people that while celebrating his goal, Aurier appeared to spit in the direction of some supporters.

However, the Ivory Coast international has taken to social media to deny the claims, adding that he would never do such a thing.

Posting on Instagram, he said: "What a night, what a game, what a comeback. Congratulations to all for this great performance that qualifies us for the next round.

"[Little personal message to correct a controversy! I will never spit on animals, let alone humans, let alone fans of this club that gives me the opportunity to express myself and do my job. Let's focus on the most important goals that are coming soon. Thank you all for the support."

Spurs have one more game left in the group stage, away against Bayern Munich on December 11, but they cannot now finish top of the group, with the German side qualifying as group winners.
