Ex-Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino has hailed the development of defender Eric Dier, telling England boss Gareth Southgate to ensure the Spurs man gets into his team this summer.
The former Sporting Lisbon man, 26, has been in fine form for Tottenham in recent weeks, partnering Toby Alderweireld in central defence during each of his seven Premier League appearances.
And that has seen Jose Mourinho's side concede only five goals - putting to bed arguments about where Dier's best position lies, says Cascarino.
"Jose Mourinho has always liked him, he talks about when he first joins the club the players we wanted to sign and it is clear Eric Dier is one of them," Cascarino told talkSPORT.
"He really lost his way at Tottenham. The fans couldn't quite work out what most of us in the media would talk about, is he a centre- half or is he a midfielder?
"I think that debate has now ended because of his performances at centre-half because Jose has decided to play him in that position alongside [Toby] Alderweireld.
"For me, his performances have said everything about him this year. He is playing the best football I have seen him play at Tottenham."
Those fine performances have seen him handed starts in central defence during each of his last three England caps, including against number one ranked side Belgium in a game that England won 2-1.
"I also think Gareth Southgate really like him," Cascarino continued.
"He didn't have his greatest game [against Belgium] but he played alright. I think Southgate is looking at him and thinking: 'Who is it going to be?'
"He has got Maguire, he's got Keane, he's got Gomez - okay, injured, and he's got Coady - but I think he is thinking that he has to get Dier in his team somehow."
Cascarino added: "He has got to be in that team which seems a far cry from where he once was."
