Spurs defender Eric Dier gives Harry Kane verdict amid £160m Man City transfer links

Tottenham Hotspur have endured a turbulent summer as new footballing director Fabio Paratici attempts to close the gap between Spurs and last season's top four.

The Lillywhites have failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in each of the last two campaigns and will be looking to rectify that this term, having added in Spanish playmaker Bryan Gil, Italian 'keeper Pierluigi Gollini and Argentine centre-back Cristian Romero to the ranks this summer.

Spurs have also offloaded several experienced members of the squad, with tough-tackling defender Toby Alderweireld and Argentine winger Erik Lamela both departing N17 after a combined 15 years with the club.

However, it is Harry Kane's future that has been the most discussed topic of the summer, with reigning Premier League champions Manchester City reportedly interested in acquiring the 28-year-old's services.

The England captain then added fuel to the fire when he failed to turn up for training at the club's Hotspur Way Training Ground following his holiday in the Bahamas, although, he later denied that this had anything to do with his commitment to the club.

The prolific centre-forward was absent for Spurs' opening game of the season against City and Nuno Espirito Santo's side grabbed a shock victory thanks to a goal from South Korean talisman Heung Min-Son, who netted the only goal of the game just before the hour mark.

It was a historic win for the north Londoners and English defender Eric Dier, who performed excellently throughout the contest, has heaped praise on the quality that Kane possesses whilst also stating that Tottenham are much more than just one player.

"Everyone knows the quality he (Kane) has, how he can affect games and how important he has been for Tottenham, that won't change but obviously, we are more than one player", Dier told international broadcasters.

"Tottenham is the most important thing and the players that are playing. We need to do as well as we can with who is playing."
