Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez set for surprise new role against Arsenal in north London derby

Mauricio Pochettino has thrown one of his traditional selection curveballs in the north London derby with the selection of Davinson Sanchez at right-back.

The big Colombian centre-back has never played in the role for Spurs and many expected the visitors to play with a back three when the teams were announced at the Emirates Stadium.

However, it is Sanchez who will line up on the right and he was seen slinging in crosses during the warm-up with Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez looking to head them away.

Pochettino has history of surprising defensive decisions at the Emirates with Juan Foyth chosen over Toby Alderweireld last season and in the past Kevin Wimmer thrown into a back three having been out of the team.

It will be a stern test of the Colombian's credentials on the flank as he is not known for his attacking ability in looking to get forward.

Elsewhere in the team Christian Eriksen also returns to the starting line-up with Dele Alli returning to the bench after his absence with a hamstring injury.

lCub record signing Tanguy Ndombele missed the match against Newcastle with a thigh injury and he will remain out until after the international break.

Kyle Walker-Peters misses out with a hamstring strain suffered against Newcastle while Juan Foyth remains out and Ryan Sessegnon is set to rejoin first team training in the coming days.
