Spurs dealt major blow in race to sign Inter Milan star as Harry Kane makes transfer admission

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Friday, November 12.

Tottenham dealt de Vrij blow

Stefan de Vrij has been linked with a move to join his former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the defender knows nothing about the rumours.

Speaking to Ziggo Sport, via footballoranje, De Vrij said, “I don’t know anything about anything.

“That connection may be made quickly because the trainer I’ve worked with works there now. But I don’t know anything. He hasn’t approached me about it yet.”

Kane's surprising transfer admission

Harry Kane believes that he handled the speculation over his Tottenham Hotspur future well and has vowed to emerge from his current slump by working harder than ever, after admitting that England’s Euro 2020 final loss to Italy has taken a mental and physical toll.

“It was tough in terms of that loss,” he said.

“Losing a European final for your country at Wembley, that will stay with me for the rest of my career. You never really get over those things. Hopefully we go and win some major tournaments. That always stings but I’m pretty used to it now, I’m pretty used to going back into things.

“There was a lot of talk, a lot of speculation over the summer – the first real time that probably happened to me in my career - but that’s part and parcel of learning, part and parcel of being a big player, having to deal with those situations and I think I dealt with it well.

"Now it is about focusing. There is still a long way to go at club level and now for me it is about finishing these two games strong with England and finishing off what has been a great calendar year.”

Gerrard's Conte view

New Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard isn't the biggest fan of Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte - if past assessments are anything to go by.

In the 2017/18 season, when Conte was enduring a difficult start to his second season with Chelsea, the 3-0 defeat to Roma in the Champions League was seen as 'disrespectful' and Gerrard thinks that the 52-year-old got his tactics completely wrong on the occasion.

Gerrard analysed on BT Sport post-match as a pundit: "Cesc Fabregas doesn't cover ground like Kante. Obviously he's great on the ball but I think Conte has disrespected Roma today.

"I think he showed them fantastic respect against Atletico Madrid by going with Hazard in behind Morata and having a lot of bodies behind the ball, packing the midfield.

"It was a very bold team selection and it has backfired on him."
