Spurs clarify stadium fire reports after staff evacuated from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Around 300 members of staff had to be evacuated from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday after a small fire broke out.

The fire, caused when a compressor in the kitchen caught light, trigged alarms at around 10am on September 2 and staff were told to leave the premises as normal procedures took place.

The fire was extinguished quickly and Tottenham fans were allowed to re-enter the club shop shortly after the incident was dealt with.

Some reports suggested the fire lasted around one hour, but football.london understands that it was dealt with quickly.

The club have clarified that the incident started in the kitchen as a compressor caught fire and as a result, set the alarm off.

The fire itself was very small and an electrician put it out quickly with an extinguisher.

The fire brigade then arrived soon after as the alarm had been triggered, but as the fire was already out they performed routine checks of the building.

Tottenham moved into the state-of-the-art stadium in early 2019. The stadium is one of the largest in the country and has a capacity of 62,850.

The estimated construction cost of the stadium complex was more than £1billion.
