Spurs announce increased capacity at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

More people can watch Tottenham than ever before in the Premier League in N17 this season.

That is because the capacity at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has increased over the summer.

When the brand new ground finally opened its doors in April this year, the capacity was set at 62,062.

But Spurs have added more than 150 extra seats during the summer to swell that figure to 62,214 for the 2019/20 campaign and beyond.

The club submitted a planning application to Haringey Council to increase the capacity over the summer following a detailed review of the stadium seating bowl during the summer months in conjunction with Building Control.

And the council approved the application to add small number of additional seats in the North and South stands.

When the new ground officially opened for the game against Crystal Palace on April 3, the attendance was revealed as 59,215, leading to plenty of puzzled looks.

One factor which brought the number down was the segregation between the home fans and the set of away supporters in the north east corner of the ground, while some of the premium areas had not been opened at that time, which affected the capacity.

With segregation between both sets of fans being in place for every competitive game taking out a couple of hundreds seats, the stadium is never actually going to hold the full capacity for a competitive encounter.

However, now the number is at 62,214, there is the real possibility that the ground will hold 62,000-plus this season.

Last season's biggest attendance at the new stadium was 60,243 for the Champions League semi-final home leg with Ajax. That figure is just 17 short of arch rivals Arsenal's full capacity at the Emirates Stadium.
