VIJAYAWADA: A woman has been staging a sit-in protest for two days in front of her boyfriend’s house in Chitti Nagar in Vijayawada after he rejected her marriage proposal.
Neither the girl nor her family members are ready to lodge a complaint even after multiple requests by Two Town police, the SHO told TOI. Two Town police told TOI that the woman from Gannavaram in Krishna district and the youth met at a fashion designing institute in Vijayawada in 2016. The two have been in a relationship since then.
When the woman asked her boyfriend to marry her, he refused to. It has been alleged that the youth and his family did not agree to the proposal as the woman belongs to a Scheduled Caste.
The woman’s family has also alleged that the police are favouring the youth’s family, citing close relations between Vijaywada mayor Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi and his family.
However, police condemned the allegation, stating that so far they have not received any complaint from the woman or any of her family members.
The SHO also said that when the police spoke to the woman and asked her to file a complaint, she said she wants the youth to marry her and is not interested in filing a complaint against him.
