Spurious liquor death toll rises to 18 in Haryana; three more arrests in Yamunanagar

YAMUNANAGAR: The number of deaths rose to 18 due to consumption of spurious liquor in Yamunanagar and Ambala district of Haryana on Saturday.

The deaths have been coming to light for the last four days. Of 18 deceased persons, 16 died in Yamunanagar while two in Ambala district.

Four fresh deaths were reported in Yamunanagar district. The victims were Narinder Kumar of Mandebari village and Arun Kumar (36) of Panjeta Ka Majra in Farakpur area, Rishipal (45) of Mangalpur village in Bilaspur area and Paramjit Singh of Saran village in Chhapar area.

Sources also said that five persons, who fell ill after consuming suspected spurious liquor, are still admitted at different hospitals of the district.

Meanwhile, Yamunanagar police spokesman Chamkaur Singh informed that the district police made three more arrests in connection with this case of spurious liquor. Those arrested were identified as Mahender of Bharheri village district, Subhash and Radhe of Saran village in Yamunanagar district.

The Yamunanagar police have so far made a total nine arrests in connection with the spurious liquor death cases tragedy.

Firstly, six deaths were reported due to hooch in Yamunanagar on November 8.

Yamunanagar superintendent of police (SP) Ganga Ram Punia said that as many as 16 deaths were reported so far in the district.
