Springholm man hits out at irresponsible dog owners failing to clean up after their pets

Irresponsible dog owners failing to clean up after their pets are causing a health hazard at Springholm, it has been claimed.

According to local man Martin Fowler, dog mess in playing fields is the worst it has been since he came to the village.

Martin, 56, walks his three dogs regularly in the field between the Reoch Park housing scheme where he stays and the A75.

But he’s horrified some owners are using it as a pet toilet knowing that local children regularly play there.

“It’s getting out of hand,” he told the News.

“I took the dogs out yesterday and within half an hour when I came back there was a massive pile outside my back gate.

“People are not cleaning up after their dogs. There are piles all over the place.

“There’s a lot of kids play there and it a real health hazard for them.”

Martin added: “I would like to see a camera there. And there’s only one sign there telling people to clean up after their dog.”

A caretaker at a local hotel, Martin reckons the problem has become worse in recent months.

“I have lived here for 12 years and this is the worst it has ever been,” he said.

“It’s not on the playing field – it’s at a little play area with swings as well.

“This just gives all us good dog owners a bad name.

“And it’s not just me – there’s a lot of other people sick of it as well.”

Martin urged all local owners to be responsible for their pets’ waste in order to keep the park safe.

He said: “I would simply say pick the poo up and don’t leave it for other people to clean up.

“Carry a bag and do the right thing. There’s a bin there so there’s no need for it.

“They actually have to walk past it on the way into the field.”
