Springfield Road closed due to shooting incident

Police have closed the Springfield Road between Springfield Drive and Oranmore Street.

The closure is due to an ongoing investigation into a shooting that occurred in the area on Monday evening.

The 30-year-old victim remains in a critical condition.

Detective Inspector Michael McDonald, said: "At around 7:40pm this evening a 30-year-old man was chased along the Springfield Road by a man armed with a firearm and shot a number of times.

"He has been taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition at present. The suspect is believed to have made off on foot along Kashmir Road after the shooting.

"This was a reckless and ruthless act carried out in broad daylight beside a busy main road in a residential area and endangered the lives of everyone in the vicinity.

"I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or may have captured the scene on dash cam to contact detectives at Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 1885 of 22/0719 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
