Springbok World Cup-winning legend Kobus Wiese rushed to hospital after suffering heart attack

World Cup-winning South African great Kobus Wiese is in a Cape Town hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Reports of the Springbok legend's condition surfaced on Thursday morning, when it was said that he began to feel unwell on Tuesday night before being rushed to hospital.

SA Rugby Mag says Wiese was rushed to hospital to have a stent inserted into a narrowed vein.

The 56-year-old is said to now be in a stable condition.

The former lock played 18 times for South Africa, including during the successful 1995 Rugby World Cup campaign in his homeland.

"We pray that he gets better. Kobus is mentally very strong. I think he will survive it," former team-mate Toks van der Linde told Cape Talk.

"He can't take calls in the ICU but we're WhatsApping each other and I'm in contact with his wife, Belinda.

"I told him too that he's got a second chance now and he needs to look after himself.

"I didn't sleep last night. I was so drained but Kobus is a strong character. It's a major wake-up call."

Wiese will now be monitored in hospital for the next three days.
