In many parts of Australia, it’s been a long, hard winter.
Tasmania was buffeted by “thundersnow”; flights were cancelled due to icy conditions in Melbourne; snow fell as far north as southern Queensland; and New South Wales and Victoria residents alike grimly endured the “Antarctic vortex”.
The coldest June temperature in five years was recorded at Observatory Hill in Sydney, while overnight lows of -7C in Canberra were described by a bureau forecaster as a once-in-a-decade occurrence.
But with September under way, spring has sprung – at least technically – and we’re starting to see signs of it: longer days, brighter skies and blossoming trees.
We want to see the beginnings of spring in your area. Or, if there are still no signs, let us know how your winter was (...still is?). Share your photos, videos and stories with us and we’ll feature the most interesting contributions on the site.
