Spread some cheer this Easter by joining in our neighbourhood egg hunt

It's nearly time for the Easter bank holiday weekend - although this year it will look very different with the country in lockdown.

The government continues to warn people to stay indoors, with essential food shopping and one form of outdoor exercise a day among a handful of exceptions.

So, we're encouraging readers to spread some much-needed cheer over the weekend by taking part in our neighbourhood Easter egg hunt.

All you need to do is download and print out the egg poster at the bottom of this page, colour it in and then stick it inside your front window - just as families have been displaying pictures of rainbows as a message of hope during this time of crisis.

A nationwide egg hunt was launched in New Zealand earlier this week, backed by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, and the idea is starting to take off worldwide.

It makes for a great Easter activity to get children to think creatively and to keep children busy whilst being stuck indoors.

When families are taking their daily walks, they can spot all of the eggs in windows as they walk by - you can even make up your own rewards and treats for spotting them along the way.

Why not add a message of support for our NHS heroes and key workers to make them smile when they come home from work?

Remember, it's important if you do use your daily exercise to take part in the neighbourhood hunt, to observe the government's social distancing measures at all times.

Only head with other members of your household, and always stay a minimum of two metres away from others walking by.

You can download our Easter egg design below to print out and colour in.

Happy Easter!
