Spotify Wrapped most-streamed song of 2022 unveiled as Brit solo artist tops the list

Harry Styles ' chart-topping hit As It Was has taken the top spot as Spotify 's most-streamed song of the year.

As the end of 2022 draws near, the music streaming platform has released its annual Spotify Wrapped data, giving an insight into the listening activity of its millions of users.

Spotify said that the former One Direction star's hit, released back in April, had been streamed a total of 1.5 billion times this year.

The song reached No1 on the UK Official Singles Chart and spent 10 weeks in the top position, but also performed well across the globe, breaking a US chart record as the longest-running US number one by a UK act.

It spent 15 weeks at the top of the American Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, beating the record of Elton John's Candle In The Wind and Mark Ronson's Bruno Mars collab, Uptown Funk, which both spent 14 weeks in the top position.

More Brits took the second spot with UK indie rock band Glass Animals having the second most-streamed song of 2022 with their hit Heat Waves.

This was followed by STAY, a collaboration between Australian artist The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber.

Meanwhile, Bad Bunny’s Me Porto Bonito featuring Chencho Corleon and Tití Me Preguntó took spots four and five, respectively.

Despite taking the top spot for the most-streamed song of the year, Styles missed out on the number one position for the most-streamed artist of 2022.

The top spot went to Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, who's broken records by holding the coveted position since 2020.

The second most-streamed artist was Taylor Swift, whose new album Midnight propelled her up the list.

The American singer made history last month when she became the first artist to claim all top 10 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.

She also beat out Harry Styles as the most listened-to artist in the UK for 2022.

Drake, The Weeknd, and K-Pop band BTS took third, fourth, and fifth place respectively for the most-streamed artist category, with Harry Styles only coming in at seventh.

But the As It Was singer did make another appearance on a top five list though, securing a No2 position for the most-streamed album globally with Harry's House, after being beaten out by Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti.

Olivia Rodrigo's SOUR album came in third, while = by Ed Sheeran took fourth and Planet Her by Doja Cat came in fifth.

It wasn't just new releases that listeners were loving; Kate Bush's 1985 single Running Up That Hill was the most-streamed throwback song.

The single saw a huge revival after featuring in the fourth season of Stranger Things and quickly went viral on TikTok.

It hit No1 on the UK's Official Singles Chart as well as number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
