Spotify Wrapped 2019: Ed Sheeran named as most successful British streaming artist of the decade

Ed Sheeran is the most successful British musician of the decade, according to Spotify.

The 28-year-old was the second most streamed artist on the streaming platform in the 2010s, beaten only by Drake. His song Shape of You, however, was streamed 2.3 billion times worldwide, more than any other track.

It caps what has been an extraordinary 10 years for Sheeran, in which he has released four consecutive UK number one albums and embarked on the highest grossing tour of all time, pulling in almost £600m from live shows supporting his Divide release.

Sheeran was named alongside Post Malone, Ariana Grande and Eminem in the top five most streamed artist of the 2010s. He was also placed fourth in the most streamed artists of 2019.

The data has been revealed by the streaming platform as part of its annual Spotify Wrapped feature, which details listener habits and trends.
