Spotify Premium 'Duo' means people can now pair up to share their subscriptions

Spotify has launched a new offer that finally allows you to share your subscription with the most important person in your life.

The feature – named "Premium Duo" – allows people to buy a cheaper subscription between two people, letting them sign up with their partner or someone else important in their life.

As well as offering a way of getting a Spotify subscription more cheaply, the new deal gives people extra features that aren't usually available on the service.

It will create a special "Duo Mix", for instance, which mixes together your music tastes and creates a playlist based on the combination of the two. It hopes to find music that both people will be able to enjoy together, and will update as people use their accounts more.

And it gives each member of the couple an easy way to share music with the other. A Shared Playlists feature lets people send songs to the other member of the couple in just one click.

The subscription costs €12.49 in the countries where it is being tested. Usually a subscription costs €9.99 so it represents a significant saving over buying two separate subscriptions.

Spotify already offers the ability for groups to sign up together and save money: its family plan costs £14.99 or $14.99, and allows up to six people to use the account. But as well as being more expensive than the duo option, all of the family is supposed to live at the same address, a rule that has caused problems for Spotify and its users in the past.

The feature is currently available in Colombia, Chile, Denmark, Ireland and Poland and it is not clear if it will roll out further in the future, or when.
