Sports stars working on the frontline in battle against coronavirus in Ireland

As Ireland battles the coronavirus pandemic, our brave frontline workers have led the fight against the virus in our country's hospitals.

With the nation in lockdown to help curb the spread of COVID-19, many have downed their tools to join the thousands of inspirational frontline workers and offer their support.

Here's a few familiar names from the sporting world that are lending a helping hand:

Jack McCaffrey

The Dublin star helped secure an historic five-in-a-row in September, but for now he's busy with the day job.

The Clontarf man is a doctor at Temple Street Children's hospital and has urged people to follow government advice on movements and social distancing.

Dublin ladies star and four-time All-Ireland winner Healy works in intensive care after qualifying as a doctor in 2015.

Like McCaffrey, Healy has offered the public advice to help slow the spread of the virus on social media.

The Irish Olympic hopeful has been working as a cleaner in St. Vincent's Hospital after the Tokyo Olympic Games were postponed.

And after Harrington's London boxing qualifiers were cancelled last month, the boxer made herself available to work as a cleaner in her local hospital during the difficult time - after two weeks isolating.

But now Killeen is back healthy and on the frontline after a period of isolation recovering from the virus.

A Waterford hurler until the age of 23, he packed in the sport and left Ireland for New Zealand to work as a doctor last summer.

He's now come home to join the fight and work in Ireland.
