Ben Stokes scooped the prestigious prize in Aberdeen on Sunday night, further reward for his heroics in the Cricket World Cup Final and third Ashes Test at Headingley.
Six-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton finished second, with Britain's fastest woman Dina Asher-Smith third.
Also nominated for the main prize were Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Raheem Sterling and Alun Wyn Jones.
England's Cricket World Cup winners won Team of the Year and Greatest Sporting Moment, while Asher-Smith's coach John Blackie was named Coach of the Year.
